(London) -- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87. According to a spokesman,
Thatcher died peacefully this morning following a stroke.
Baroness Thatcher served Great Britain as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, becoming the first woman to hold that office. She was known as England's "Iron Lady," was re-elected twice, and became a close friend and confidant of then-President Reagan.
Thatcher presided over a very brief war between Great Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982, and emphasized deregulation of businesses and industries in her country.
